Job Overview

The Controls and Software team is looking to add a motor controls engineer to lead the development and improvement of current and future motor controls software. This is a foundational role that will impact how the vehicle moves and responds.

What You’ll Do:

Define requirements for traction motor control software and software interfaces
Develop models and algorithms for motor controls and mapping
Support embedded software implementation and integration
Support validation of motor control models, software, and hardware implementation
Develop technical safety requirements for inverter hardware and implemented software

Who You Are:

Strong understanding and experience with field oriented control techniques, pwm schemes
Experience with MATLAB, Simulink
Experience with C development in embedded real time systems
Experience with AC electric motors and drive systems
Experience with Power Electronics hardware
Experience with speed / position detection / estimation: resolvers, quadrature, Angle Tracking Observers
Experience with CAN monitoring tools such as CANalyzer, BusMaster, or similar preferred
Understanding of Classical / Modern Control theory techniques such as PID, State Space representation, state observers, kalman filter, linear quadratic regulator
Understanding of embedded systems and constraints on algorithm implementatio
Experience with source control systems such as git, svn,
Experience with electric vehicle technology, high voltage systems, and vehicle level torque path architectures

California Pay Range

$120,000—$180,000 USD
