ICON is looking to add a Field Engineering Technician I to our team. This role is designed for someone eager to build hands-on skills in supporting the commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of ICON’s 3D printers. As a Technician I, you’ll assist with setup, connect and disconnect cabling, replace components, and support operators to ensure printer uptime. You’ll receive guidance from Leads, Senior Technicians, and Engineers while developing proficiency in basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting. This role is a great opportunity to grow your technical foundation in a fast-paced environment while working on groundbreaking construction technology. This role is based in Austin, TX, and will require travel outside of the area for extended durations. This position reports to the Field Engineering Technician Lead.

RESPONBILITIES

  • Assist with printer setup, connect/disconnect electrical, pneumatic, and network cabling, replace equipment components, and support operators to maintain uptime.
  • Respond to work orders, perform basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues to senior team members while contributing to resolution.
  • Accurately document work performed, update work orders in the tracking system, and communicate status updates with operators and the team.
  • Collaborate with Print Operators and senior technicians to identify the root cause of technical problems.
  • Build proficiency under the guidance of Leads and Seniors; apply lessons learned and strive for continuous improvement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or similar fields.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, complete tasks under supervision, and escalate complex issues appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel outside of Austin, TX, including extended stays and on-call, nights, and weekends.
  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic understanding of PLCs, VFDs, and their interaction with machinery.
  • Experience in construction, field work, or working on complex machinery.
  • Ability to terminate cabling of various sizes and use testing equipment to verify installation.
  • Experience with different types of welding.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10, CPR, and Lockout/Tagout (all provided by ICON).

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and regularly.
  • Comfortable working in various outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures (above 100°F or below freezing), sun, rain, mud, and areas with limited infrastructure (e.g., lack of electricity).
  • Comfortable standing and moving on your feet for the majority of the workday as well as climbing ladders and carrying material buckets.
