About the Role

We’re looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join our AI team and help build the intelligence layer behind Wyre AI’s preconstruction platform. You’ll work on real-world Generative AI and document intelligence problems involving construction drawings, specifications, scopes, and other project documents. This is a hands-on role for an early-career engineer with strong AI/ML fundamentals and meaningful project, internship, research, or hackathon experience. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers to experiment, build, evaluate, and improve AI capabilities as they move toward production.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and improve AI/ML pipelines for unstructured and semi-structured documents.

• Work with LLMs, embeddings, NLP, and retrieval-based systems to extract and structure information from documents.

• Develop and experiment with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) and semantic search across document sets.

• Work with vector search frameworks and databases such as FAISS, Pinecone, or similar technologies.

• Prototype and evaluate approaches for information extraction, document understanding, entity identification, and data normalization.

• Experiment with prompting, embeddings, chunking, retrieval strategies, and techniques to improve LLM output quality.

• Support document-processing workflows involving PDFs, scanned documents, and free-text project information.

• Build Python-based APIs and services that support AI capabilities and product integrations.

• Test, evaluate, debug, and continuously improve AI models and pipelines.

• Collaborate with AI, engineering, and product teams to turn prototypes into reliable product capabilities.

• Learn and apply new AI models, frameworks, and techniques as the platform evolves.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Python, machine learning, and data structures & algorithms.

• Understanding of LLMs, NLP, embeddings, semantic search, and Generative AI concepts.

• Hands-on AI/ML experience through academic projects, internships, research, hackathons, or personal projects.

• Exposure to RAG, vector search, document processing, information extraction, or PDF-based AI workflows.

• Familiarity with frameworks or libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, LangChain, Scikit-learn, FAISS, or similar tools.

• Understanding of APIs and backend development; experience with FastAPI or similar frameworks is a plus.

• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to experiment, learn, and iterate quickly.

• Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or a related field, or currently completing a relevant degree.

Strong Plus

• Hands-on experience building RAG or semantic-search applications.

• Experience working with PDF or document intelligence use cases.

• Exposure to OCR, multimodal AI, computer vision, or information extraction.

• Experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Claude, or similar models.

• Experience with FastAPI, cloud services, Git, or deployment workflows.

• Strong performance in coding competitions, hackathons, research, or open-source projects.
